Walt Disney Co. is in talks with the British Broadcasting Corp. about acquiring the streaming rights to a new Doctor Who Series.
According to Bloomberg, “talks are in the early stages and there’s no guarantee a deal will be reached, according to people with knowledge of the matter who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. The show would potentially air globally on the Disney+ streaming service. The BBC would also air the program.”
Doctor Who is a classic science-fiction series. The Doctor is called a `Time Lord’, a time-travelling scientist from a far-off planet, who travels through time in a TARDIS. A TARDIS is a machine that is larger on the inside than the outside and is supposed to change its appearance based on its surroundings. The Doctor is also able to evolve his biology, so he appears differently throughout the series. The Doctor’s love for the Earth, so whenever there is danger, The Doctor does whatever he can to save the planet.
The series began in 1963, with over a dozen actors taking on the role of The Doctor. Jodie Whittaker took on the role the most recently and was also the first woman to play the role. In May, the BBC announced that Ncuti Gatwa will star in the next season; he will be the first Black person to play the role of The Doctor.
