Black Panther Wakanda Forever has given us our first look at a world without Chadwick Boseman’s character T’Challa. If you don’t know by now Chadwick Boseman tragically passed away in 2020 and many wondered what was next for Black Panther. The film has been filled with speculations as to who would take the mantle of Black Panther even a movement to recast T’Challa was started. We finally got our answer well sort of during SDCC this year.
Who Will Become The New Black Panther?
The trailer definitely had us all in our feels with it starting off with the funeral to T’Challa as well as seeing the heartbreak the family is going through. We don’t really learn much about the plot but rather get a feeling to how the movie will be and some new additions. Namor the Submariner will make his first appearance alongside the Atlanteans who will go against Wakanda. The epic nature of the shots tells us that its all-out war and of course Namor being the leader of Atlantis we know Wakanda needs one too.
Wakanda Needs A New Leader
Wakanda Forever will surely have us see who will take that role as the leader and Black Panther Wakanda will need. The question however is who would in fact be able to fill that role in time to stop Namor and the Atlanteans. There are several characters who could take this part but definitely it boils down to three in my opinion so let’s run through them. Shuri, Nakia, and M’Baku are definitely the three main characters who could take on the mantle of Black Panther. The obvious choice for some time was Shuri as we have seen it in the comics already, but it doesn’t seem as clear anymore. Shuri could actually be more in Riri Williams corner and work behind the scenes from the looks of the trailer.
M’BAKU or Nakia As Black Panther?
M’Baku seemed to have wanted the role before so it won’t be a surprise if he tries to come for it again in the sequel. The only reason I don’t think he will be the Black Panther however is due to the final shot of Black Panther fighting Namor. In the final shot of the trailer the Black Panther body type doesn’t really fit M’Baku from what I remember so this leads me to think it’s someone else. The someone else could definitely be Nakia who gets a lot of presence in the trailer as well as the poster. I also think Nakia makes a lot of sense considering her relationship to T’Challa and drive she has.
In the end I believe we see the mantle be passed on several times but by the end of the film I truly see Nakia taking on the mantle. I would be happy either way if she doesn’t and it’s M’Baku or Shuri but I’m betting more on Nakia. Who do you think will become the next Black Panther let me know below.
