Rian Johnson Still Wants to Make ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

It has been five years since Lucasfilm announced an all-new Star Wars trilogy to be created by The Last Jedi writer-director, Rian Johnson. Johnson has made it clear that he still wants to make the trilogy, but that scheduling conflicts have deterred the project.

“I’ve stayed close to Kathleen [Kennedy] and we get together often and talk about it. It’s just at this point a matter of schedule and when it can happen. It would break my heart if I were finished, if I couldn’t get back in that sandbox at some point.”

Currently, Johnson is working on two Knives Out sequels for Netflix, the first of which, Glass Onion, releases in December. Several Star Wars series are in the works, with Andor weeks away from debuting, The Mandalorian coming early next year, and Ahsoka to follow.

Despite scheduling conflicts, Kennedy has emphasized that they “love” Johnson and are willing to wait for him to have time to work on the trilogy. However, it seems that Star Wars fans will have to wait another few years.
