Lionsgate announced that production on The Strangers remake has begun, which is based on Bryan Bertino’s cult classic of the same name.

The 2008 original introduced the three masked killers in a remote home in the woods. They then returned 10 years later to a trailer park in The Strangers: Prey at Night. The remake is set to be produced in Bratislava, Slovakia and will take place at an Airbnb.

Directed by Renny Harlin with a script by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland. It stars Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez. The story follows the two as they set on a cross-country drive to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down, they are forced to spend the night at an Airbnb. There they are terrorized by three masked strangers.

The story will be taken in new and interesting directions over the course of three films. According to producer Courtney Solomon, “Shooting this story as a trilogy allows us to create a hyperreal and terrifying character study.”
