Halloween Ends is the conclusion to David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy.
Story
Set four years after Laurie Strode’s last encounter with Michael Myers, we see Laurie living with her granddaughter, Allyson. Finally free from Michael, Laurie decides to focus on writing a memoir. However, despite no encounters with Michael, there seems to be a new evil that is unleashed in Haddonfield following the death of a young boy.
Visuals
Right from the start, the film shocks you with a moment that brought audible gasps to the audience I was with. Although it takes a while to introduce the kills, each of the kills were brutal and definitely stick with you. The color palette definitely gives you the feeling that darkness is consuming Haddonfield.
Acting
The starring actors did a great job. Jamie Lee Curtis always brings a sense of confidence and humor to her role that I love. Rohan Campbell also did a great job of portraying a sweet character (Corey), who we see drastically change. The only cringey part would have to be the high school bullies, but maybe that was actually successful, since they proved to be really annoying.
Overall
Despite Halloween Ends proving to be a very divisive film among hardcore fans, I thought it was good. I appreciate Green taking risks with the film and taking it in a direction that we haven’t seen before. I do think that it could’ve been a bit shorter, and did have questionable moments, but after all, it is a fictional story. It also struggled to balance humor and seriousness, but overall, it was entertaining.
