James Gunn and Peter Safran will be replacing Walter Hamada as co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios. Previously known as DC Films, Walter Hamada led it for the past four years. He departed last week following friction with new Warners CEO David Zaslav.

Gunn will handle the creative side, while Safran handles the business and production side. Both will continue working on other films and projects, with Gunn working exclusively with DC for four years. They will report directly to Zaslav and work closely with Warners’ film bosses De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
“We’re honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we’ve loved since we were children,” said Gunn and Safran in a written statement. “Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent. We’re excited to invigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told.”

Gunn and Safran both have a lot of experience with DC. Gunn has written and directed several DC projects including, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. Safran produced Aquaman, Shazam!, and The Suicide Squad.
The hiring is effective November 1.
