Sissy is a film written and directed by Hannah Barlow and Kane Senes.

The film follows influencer Cecilia. As a tween, she was best friends with Emma. This friendship was shattered by another girl, Alex. Years have passed, until Cecilia runs into Emma at the store. Excited, Emma invites Cecilia to her bachelorette weekend, located in an isolated cabin in the mountains.

The film features a colorful and sparkly palette, which juxtaposes perfectly when the gore is introduced in the film. As for the kills, it definitely is gory and realistic, but it isn’t overdone.

The actors were all really good, especially, the film’s lead, Aisha Dee who played Cecilia. Throughout the film, you’re rooting for her character, until more of her past unravels. You really feel for her character whenever Emma’s friend group is leaving her out of conversations and activities. It’s really unsettling when you see the lengths she’ll go to maintain her online persona.

I really enjoyed Sissy. I love the combination of horror and comedy, and how it takes risks. The only thing that I didn’t really like was when the music would drown out the dialogue, especially during the beginning of the film, but maybe this was intentional? Despite this, it’s a fun film that I think any horror-lover will enjoy.

You can currently stream Sissy on Shudder.
