‘Plane’ Spoiler-Free Review: An Unexpected Fun Ride

Plane is an action-thriller fillm directed by Jean-François Richet with screenplay by Charles Cumming and J. P. Davis. It stars Gerard Butler, Mike Colter, Yoson An, and Tony Goldwyn.

Story

Pilot Brodie Torrance makes a successful emergency landing after his plane sustains critical damage from a storm. Unfortunately, he has landed on a remote area of the Philippines ruled by anti-government militias, who soon become aware of the island’s newest visitors. The passengers are taken hostage, forcing Torrance to team up with a convicted murderer.

Visuals

Right from the start, I could feel the tension just through the way that camera captured unsteady movements. The film was definitely graphic and intense, but in a good way. You never knew what to expect of the film, and it successfully conveyed tension and suspense visually throughout the film.

Acting

I enjoyed each of the actor’s performances throughout Plane. It was especially entertaining seeing Butler’s and Colter’s characters become unlikely partners in their trek to rescue the passengers.

Overall

I honestly went into this film thinking that it wasn’t going to be that good, especially, because I’m not the biggest fan of action movies. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It was such a fun film to watch, especially with a full audience. It had a good mix of tension and comedic relief. This is definitely a film to check out during busy times at the theater, so you’re with a big audience.
