Most Anticipated Films and Shows at SXSW

SXSW is quickly approaching, and there are so many films and shows lined up. Here are some of the ones I’m most excited about!

1. Evil Dead Rise

I have been anticipating the release of Evil Dead Rise for the longest now. It is directed by Lee Cronin and stars Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan. The trailer looks super creepy and intense, and I’m so excited to watch it ahead of its release in April. In the film, an ancient book unleashes demons into a Los Angeles apartment complex.

2. Problemista

Written, directed and starring Julio Torress, the film follows an aspiring toy designer as he grapples with living in New York City and the struggles of the U.S immigration system. I loved Julio Torres in Los Espookys, so I’m excited to see him in a new project both on and behind the screen (he is both starring and is the director/writer of the film.)

3. Bottoms

Bottoms is a film directed by Emma Seligman, starring Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri. Seeing Sennott and Edebiri together is really exciting. Sennott is super funny, and I loved Edebiri in The Bear. The film follows two outcast highschoolers who start a fight club to try and impress and hookup with cheerleaders.

4. Swarm

The newest series from Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, I know this will be amazing. It has a simple description, “Murder. Sex. Music.” I’m also really excited for the Swarm Mini-Mart Pop-Up on March 10 and March 11.

5. Love and Death

Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Jesse Plemons, this is bound to be an awesome show. The two are incredible actors, and the premise of this show sounds super interesting. Based on the true story of Candy Montgomery, who was accused of murdering her friend Betty Gore.

You can still purchase badges for SXSW if you want to check these out, along with a huge array of other films and shows. The film and TV portion of the festival runs from March 10-18 in Austin, TX.
