The hit asymmetrical multiplayer videogame, Dead by Daylight will be receiving a film adaptation.

Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are teaming up with Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead by Daylight to bring the film to life. Over 50 million players worldwide have played the game.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Jason Blum and James Wan, two giants of the horror film industry, to further expand the ‘Dead by Daylight’ universe. At Behaviour, our motto is to create unique moments, together, forever. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are the ideal partners to craft ‘Dead by Daylight’s’ killer entrance onto the big screen.”

Stephen Mulrooney, executive vice president at Behaviour Interactive for Variety.

“In ‘Dead by Daylight’ the Behaviour team has created a love letter to the world of horror, building an incredible environment teeming with atmosphere and terrifying villains — perfect for a scary cinematic adaptation. We’re big fans of the game at Atomic Monster, and are thrilled to be teaming up with Blumhouse to bring this frighteningly visceral world to the big screen.”

Currently, there are no directors or screenwriters attached to the project. However, Blum emphasized the importance of finding people who really love the videogame’s world.

“We know there are so many fans of Dead by Daylight out there and think it’s imperative we find someone who appreciates and loves the world as much as we do, to help us bring the game to the big screen.”

It will be interesting to see how the film adaptation will be made, considering the abundance of characters in the game. There are multiple killers and monsters, such as The Nurse, The Hag, The Wraith, and The Trapper. Likewise, there are several “survivors” such as Dwight Fairfield, Meg Thomas, Claudette Morel, and Jake Park. The game also features licensed content from other popular horror franchises such as Halloween and The Nightmare on Elm Street. Depending on the success of the film, I could see multiple films being made.

Are you excited to see Dead by Daylight adapted into a film?
