AMC announced at The Walking Dead‘s San Diego Comic-Con panel that there will be a new spinoff starring Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira’s Michonne in 2023.
The spinoff is based off characters that have been seen throughout the hit post-apocalyptic zombie series The Walking Dead. The new series will “continue the journey and love story” of Rick Grimes and Michonne. The series will begin with “six episodes in 2023” and potentially lead to being more than a mini-series.
The official description reads, “This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world, Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”
The news follows the reveal of the trailer for the final season of The Walking Dead and the first trailer for the anthology series, Tales of the Walking Dead.
