The Addams Family have taken many forms throughout the years, from its beginning in The New Yorker, to recent animated films. Finally, we are getting a new live-action iteration with Netflix’s upcoming Wednesday.
Smallville creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough serve as co-showrunners. Tim Burton is an executive producer and directed four episodes. It stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley.
Burton’s longtime collaborator Colleen Atwood is the costume designer. Atwood focused on highlighting each character’s iconic looks, with Morticia being chic, Gomez sporting his pinstripes, Wednesday wearing only black and white, and Pugsley remaining casual.
The show focuses on a series of murders that take place in the town where Wednesday has been sent to attend Nevermore Academy. Compared to the rest of the family, Wednesday is “afraid of emotion,” according to Gough.
One member of the Addams Family that has yet to be revealed is Uncle Fester. However, according to Gough, “We have no comment on Uncle Fester. Watch the show.”
Wednesday is set to premiere Fall 2022.
