E3 Has Been Cancelled

It is a sad day indeed for the gaming world as a classic event has been canceleed. E3, the gaming industry trade event, will not be taking place in 2023 as previously planned. The Entertainment Software Association, which had announced its return after the 2022 cancellation, has now confirmed its cancellation again. Despite being a beloved event and brand, the ESA has notified its members that the plans for E3 2023 did not generate enough sustained interest to execute it in a way that would properly showcase the size, strength, and impact of the industry.

The event was scheduled to take place from June 13-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, marking the first in-person E3 event since 2019, as the 2020 event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a digital version was held in 2021.The cancellation of E3 was preceded by the announcement from major players in the gaming industry such as Microsoft, Ubisoft, and Nintendo, among others, that they would not be attending the event either in person or virtually. This news coincided with the decision of several prominent companies including Xbox, PlayStation, and Ubisoft to hold their own digital showcases instead of participating in E3.

It’s a sad to thing to see as I myself have been watching and anticipating E3 for years now. In today’s age however its easier for companies to just host their own presentations. We have seen this be done just this year and will probably be a new trend we see moving forward. The outlook for E3 doesn’t look promising but we hope it can return in some capacity in the near future.
