Clock is a horror film written and directed by Alexis Jacknow. It stars Dianna Agron as Ella Patel. Additional cast members include Jay Ali as Aiden Patel, Saul Rubinek as Joseph, and Melora Hardin as Dr. Elizabeth Simmons.

The film follows Ella, a woman in her late thirties who has no desire to have children, despite pressure from friends, family, and society. All of her friends either have children or are pregnant. Her husband, Aiden, is supportive of her decision, but still yearns to have children as well. Ella’s father also never fails to emphasis that if she doesn’t have children, their family’s lineage will end with her. Even visits with her doctor end up in questions about whether or not she will have children.

Although Ella is content in her childfree life, she ultimately succumbs to the mounting pressure. While visiting her doctor, Ella brings up her issues with her biological clock. The doctor lets her know of a clinical trial made just for this, so Ella decides to secretly sign up. The trial ends up being an intense and isolating experience, totally clouding Ella’s mind with fearful experiences.

Dianna Agron as Ella was particularly great, especially considering that the film mainly focuses on her character. We see her go through an intense experience and a range of emotions that felt genuinely convincing. Likewise, Melora Hardin as Dr. Elizabeth Simmons was great as the film’s villain, but I do wish we got to explore her character a bit more.

Overall, the film was a bit slow, and I was hoping for it to be a slow-burn that would result in a huge pop, but I didn’t really feel that satisfaction. I think the film struggled a bit with juggling a multitude of topics, however, these are still important and relevant issues, and it was still an enjoyable watch. A lot of the imagery in the film was also deeply unsettling and creepy.

We give Clock a 3.5/5 for Dianna Agron’s performance, startling imagery, and the relevant topics explored in the film.
