Christopher Judge Gets Personal [Comicpalooza 2023]

Houston’s Comicpalooza was this past weekend, and featured a lot of amazing guests and panels, including a panel with the iconic Christopher Judge.

Judge is known for many roles, but his most iconic have to be his roles as Teal’c in Stargate SG-1 and as Kratos in God of War. Judge’s panel was really memorable, with both hilarious and poignant moments.

How Judge’s Past Went Into His Acting

A lot of the panel focused on his experience with God of War and God of War Ragnarök. Judge emphasized that he believes voice actors should simply be called actors, and explains how much goes into the role.

Playing Kratos really put a toll on Judge, who explained that he really dug deep into his past trauma to feed into his role as Kratos. Kratos is an extremely angry character, but Judge explains that anger is really just a projection of pain. He also explained that he could really relate to Kratos’ experience of not having a father and how Kratos wanted to be a good father, but was never taught what that entailed. Overall, this was a painful process that kept him up at night for the nearly five years he worked on the game. However, he also experienced healing as a result.

Judge’s Future

Judge got a couple of questions regarding future wants and desires. He was asked what game he would like to revisit, and he said it would definitely be Def Jam: Fight for NY, in which he voices D-Mob. He also mentioned that he would love to be a part of The Last of Us universe.

On a related note, he was asked about being a potential cameo in the recently announce God of War live-action series coming from Amazon Prime Video. Judge emphasized that he can’t envision himself as anyone other than Kratos himself.

After all, after you’re Kratos who can you be?
