Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s latest film and comes to us 3 years after his film Tenet. The colossal blockbuster has Cillian Murphy as our leading man in a film that not only tackles the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki but also the political battles that came before and after.

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Robert Downey Jr. are the clear standouts when it comes to the acting. Although I will say that the whole cast is pretty good from top to bottom. We get some career defining moments however from our three leads that will definitely be the chatter next year at the Oscars. I was so used to seeing Robert Downey Jr. in the Iron Man mold it was refreshing to see him in a new light. Emily Blunt also carries herself amazingly and commands the scenes she’s in. Cillian Murphy evokes so much emotion with just his face and has truly become Oppenheimer by the end of the film. Undoubtedly, the best performances from each actor’s careers in my opinion.

Christopher Nolan as director and writer also crafts a compelling and truthful story on the horrors of war. I was skeptical how much of the movie would try to glorify anything from the atrocities committed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It turns out Nolan not only calls it out but questions the state of the world today. It is such an important film for our generation and many to come on the abuse of power. It is a mesmerizing and distressing movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Nolan never holds back on the visuals, and you will feel the impacts of the explosions with amazing sound design.

Overall, Oppenheimer was beautifully crafted and not only tells the story of a flawed man but also asks humanity to question the morals of war. Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s best movie to date. Dare I say, it is the movie of the year, and without a doubt one of cinema’s most important films. I truly believe it’s the gold standard for biopics going forward and can see this sweeping during awards season.

We give Oppenheimer a 5/5 for its incredible cast, amazing direction, jaw dropping visuals, and incredible story telling. The final shot and line in the film left me in my seat speechless. You make sure to watch this on the biggest screen possible.
