Olivia Rodrigo Proves She Has Guts To Try Something New

The latest album from the singer Guts has come and as a direct sequel to Sour it works. Sour saw Olivia Rodrigo break into the mainstream with hits like Good For You, Brutal, and of course the Drivers License single you couldn’t escape. Olivia has now decided to take her music to another level and the results are great. The lead single Vampire let us know Olivia was still mixing genres and the album proves this still works.

Olivia evokes a early 2000’s pop rock with a bit of grunge sprinkled from the 90’s. It’s enough to have fans of many generations loving these even if we’re older we still feel that teenage rage. Olivia proves to be able to encapsulate this feeling and have it in her music. The first song all american bitch is a clear indication of the feelings of this album.

Guts gives us a lot of back and forth with Olivia grappling breakups and new found fame as a 20 year old. The melodies, lyrics, and emotions all feel authentic to what we know of Rodrigo. It’s a bummer the album wasn’t released earlier in the summer as it makes for some great music to drive to. We definitely think Olivia has another hit album for her sophomore and eagerly await what comes next.

We give Guts a 4 out of 5.
