The Toxic Avenger is perhaps one of the biggest cult movies of all time. It was no surprise that the announcement of a remake would send fans into a frenzy. The original film saw a janitor turn into a mutant-like superhero after falling into a vat of chemicals. In the latest version that will premiere at Fantastic Fest, we see Peter Dinklage become the hero.

We got our first look at the insanity that is sure to come from the Troma classic remake courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. We get shots of Elijah Wood looking insane and Peter Dinklage wearing a tutu. There are also some shots on Taylor Paige, Jacob Tremblay, and Kevin Bacon.

It appears that Elijah Wood will be the villain in the movie as Fritz Garbinger. The look of Elijah Wood definitely got the internet talking.

The 1984 The Toxic Avenger has become such a staple to cult cinema. It is definitely going to be some big shoes to fill to make something that feels authentic to the original. Director Macon Blair however has felt very inspired by the original since a young age.

“My group of friends were starting to make our own movies on VHS. Everything we did was a rip-off of Monty Python and early Troma movies,

The director also went on to talk about reimagining the iconic goopy look of the avenger.

“His look is closer to that, and in terms of color palette we drew from the cartoon actually,” the director says. “But it’s practical effects. You can see all the goopy little boils and stuff like that. And we definitely stayed true to some of the really iconic elements: the tutu that’s melted onto his body, the janitor’s mop as his super weapon.

The film premieres tonight at Fantastic Fest and we will be talking about the initial reactions as we won’t be able to attend the first half of the festival.
