According to a recent article published by The Wrap, A24 is beginning to search for more commercial movies and shows to distribute.
A top agent familiar with the company told The Wrap that the A24 is “deemphasizing the traditional character/auteur-driven dramas.” However, another individual with A24 said the studio wasn’t necessarily going to stop but that A24 will be “doing more” by “widening the aperture.”

“Everyone in the independent film space is aware that A24 needs to pivot to more commercial films alongside its arthouse slate,” a distribution executive said. “With a $2.5 billion valuation, it’s pretty obvious that they need to expand into more commercial films.”
Despite the studio’s huge successes with films such as Moonlight (2016), Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) and Hereditary (2018), it has sustained several losses. Losses over several films such as Waves (2019), The Green Knight (2021), and Beau Is Afraid (2023) may have also led to the studio’s decision to go more mainstream.

The studio has begun developing a Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake. A24 is also looking to secure the rights to make a Halloween television series.
Although A24 is going more mainstream, I am excited to see their approach to Friday the 13th as well as potentially, Halloween!
