American Fiction the new film from Cord Jefferson has released its first hilarious teaser. The new film starring Jeffrey Wright looks to put a magnifying glass on the way companies profit off of “Black” entertainment. We meet Monk an author who has to turn to tropes to sell a book. We see in the trailer how the establishment only takes him seriously once he reverts to stereotypes. You can check out a full synopsis below.
AMERICAN FICTION is Cord Jefferson’s hilarious directorial debut, which confronts our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.
The film is Written for the Screen and Directed by: Cord Jefferso. Based upon the novel ‘Erasure’ by: Percival Everett It also has a stellar cast comprised of: Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander, Leslie Uggams, Adam Brody, Keith David, with Issa Rae and Sterling K. Brown.
