The Last of Us Season 2 will enter production in early 2024, announced HBO boss Casey Bloys. WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes delayed production of the hit show’s second season.

The series is based on the popular videogame of the same name. It follows a smuggler, Joel (played by Pedro Pascal in the show) in a post-apocalyptic world that has been turned upside down by a deadly fungus. Joel is tasked with taking a young girl named Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey in the show) across the country in the hopes of creating a cure. The game also spawned an equally popular sequel, The Last of Us: Part 2.

According to the creator of the game, Neil Druckmann, Season 2 is outlined and ready to go. However, it was not on the network’s 2024 slate presentation, meaning it could land in 2025 at the earliest.
