Your Lucky Day is the directorial debut from Dan Brown based on his 2010 short film of the same name. In the film we follow as a jackpot winning lottery ticket changes the course of strangers in a convenience store. The film is also one of Angus Cloud’s last film roles as the actor tragically passed away earlier this year. Your Lucky Day also stars Jessica Garza, Elliot Knight, and Mousa Hussein Kraish.

The film starts off strong with a very fast paced and gripping story that goes from 0-100 quick! Its aided by its claustrophobic location of the convenience store which is a character on its own. Dan Brown’s direction is incredible to see as he keeps us on the edge of our seat. One of the film’s highlights is being able to keep us in suspense during its runtime. You think all will be well and are suddenly hit with a curveball. If not executed right this can definitely feel gimmicky but in Your Lucky Day, it’s far from it. The real-life danger is not knowing what motive everyone hides beneath.

Your Lucky Day is a film that lets its actors shine through monologues and scenes with many close ups. Angus Cloud and Jessica Garza’s in particular are standouts in their performances. In our interview with Dan Brown, he spoke of how crucial Angus was with helping everyone on set. This really lends to the chemistry the actors have. The story itself was interesting to see unfold because on paper it seems simple but once you see it unfold there’s a lot more layers.
Dan Brown really captures the fall of the American Dream in all these characters in a time when the economy isn’t working for a lot of people. It’s a film about just how much money controls our lives and the lengths people will go for it. An insane story with some incredible performances and a sleek production. The only thing that didn’t quite work for us was the ending of the film. It suffers in our opinion from not knowing how to stick the landing as the film feels like it ended and then continues on.
Overall, we think Your Lucky Day is worth seeing for its amazing cast and wonderful camera work.
We give Your Lucky Day 3.75/5
