Director Nisha Pahuja and Notice Pictures Inc. has announced that The Academy Award Nominated Documentary Feature to Kill a Tiger, will release globally on Netflix on Sunday, March 10th, Oscar Sunday.
“To Kill A Tiger follows the story of Ranjit, a farmer in Jharkhand, India, who takes on the fight of his life when he demands justice for his 13-year-old daughter, the victim of sexual assault. The documentary highlights Ranjit’s unwavering support for his daughter and the bravery of a family willing to risk everything for justice.”
To Kill a Tiger has amassed 27 awards including three Canadian Screen Awards, Best Documentary at the 2023 Palm Springs International Film Festival, and their recent Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature Film. The film has received support from fellow filmmakers and activists in the industry including Impact Partners, Equality Now, SAKHI for South Asian Women and others along with executive producers Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Citadel, Quantico), NYT best-selling poet Rupi Kaur, AC Films Inc’s Andy Cohen, NFB’s Anita Lee, Atul Gawande, Andrew Dragoumis, Minor Realm’s Samarth Sahni, Deepa Mehta,Shivani Rawat (ShivHans Pictures), Mona Sinha (Equality Now), Mala Gaonkar (Surgo Foundation), Regina Scully, Anita Bhatia, Niraj Bhatia, Deepa Mehta, Priya Doraswamy, Jason Loftus, Cornelia Principe and others. The film was produced by Cornelia Principe, Notice Pictures Inc’s Nisha Pahuja and the NFB’s David Oppenheim.
Nisha Pahuja has received much recognition for her documentary work, including an Emmy nomination for The World Before Her (2012), which also garnered her a Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature at the Tribeca Film Festival, Best Canadian Documentary at Hot Docs, Toronto International Film Festival’s Canada’s Top Ten, Best Documentary nominee for Canadian Screen Awards, and Sundance Film Forward Program 2014. Her credits also include the series Diamond Road (2008 Gemini Award for Best Documentary Series) and Bollywood Bound (2002 Gemini Award nominee).
