Scream 7 is on the way, and according to Variety, Courteney Cox is in talks to return as Gale Weathers.

Cox’s Gale Weathers has been part of the whole franchise, starring in every single installment to date. She will be joining Neve Campbell who was recently announced to be returning as well. Kevin Williamson is set to direct Scream 7. It is written by Guy Busick from a story by James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick.

Williamson recently wrote on Instagram, “It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, ‘Scream,’ was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I never would have predicted what it would become. Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise. I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire ‘Scream’ family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the ‘Scream’ franchise. Thank you to all the ‘Scream’ fans. You are the gift that keeps giving.”

The upcoming film has been surrounded by controversy, with Melissa Barrera being fired and Jenna Ortega subsequently leaving. Original director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day) also left the project.
