Sting (2024) is a fun new horror movie from director Kiah Roache-Turner. The film follows the friendship between a young girl, Charlotte, and her best friend, Sting, who’s a spider from outer space. We watch on as she feels lonely, feeling disconnected from her mother and her new boyfriend; add a new baby into the mix, and it’s the perfect situation for her to grow overly attached to this weird spider she found. The stronger their bond gets, the more things begin to grow out of control as the spider begins to terrorize the occupants of the apartment building.

The characters in this film are all likable; the family feels realistic in how they act especially with this new tense situation they are all going through. Charlotte is an interesting person to follow as she gets closer and closer with Sting. We even have some interesting side characters like the exterminator and the older ladies that also live in the building. You’re never bored with any of the characters are on screen. Sting’s design is also really creepy; if you’re not a fan of spiders, it makes you feel like there’s a bug on you or something with how detailed it looks.
The effects in this movie are great and the gory scenes aren’t over the top at all. There are some scenes that will make you squeamish such as when Sting goes down the neighbor’s throat and rips her stomach open. You can’t look away from the scene but it’s not disturbingly gross where it feels unnecessary. This is a fun horror movie to watch, and I would’ve definitely liked to have seen some of the scenes on the big screen; there were several moments with Sting that would’ve looked awesome in a more fully immersive environment. I would recommend Sting to anyone who loves animal/creature horror films, and just wants a fun horror film to watch.
We give Sting a 3/5.
Sting will release April 12, 2024. You can check out the film’s trailer below:
