Founders Day takes place in a small town where a masked killer goes on a killing spree right before the town’s mayoral election. The film starts off with a bang as the mayor candidate’s daughter is attacked by the killer on a bridge, giving us a glimpse of the slasher’s iconic look: a Founding Father’s outfit. There have been multiple slasher movies throughout the years, and this definitely a unique look.

The characters aren’t the most compelling or easy to get emotionally attached to, but they are still pretty entertaining to follow. Sometimes they may be a bit over the top, such as the blonde couple and the mayor, but they fit the stereotypical slasher personalities. The main family and the girlfriend of the mayor candidate’s daughter are interesting at times, but I do feel like they could’ve done a little more with them especially with the rivalry between some of the families in the film. Some of the dialogue does fall flat and you don’t really care when some of them die.
The soundtrack is one of the highlights of the film. It perfectly fits the summer slasher vibes and makes the scenes so much more interesting. The film is also shot beautifully, it’s a very pretty fall-themed movie. I could see myself watching this around October to get in the spirit of the season. The kills are also pretty mean at times, making you gasp at how cruel the killer is.

It’s a fun movie that’s great to check out if you’re in the mood for a cheesy slasher and perfect for the fall!
We give Founders Day a 2.5/5.
