John Cena held a panel this past Sunday, May 26 at Comicpalooza, and of course, a lot of wrestling was discussed.

Cena took us back to his early days, mentioning how his childhood played a huge part in his love for wrestling. Growing up with four other brothers, and a dad that loved the sport, there were plenty of moments where the boys would set up their own “matches.” Being able to interact in this way with his siblings provided him a lot of moments to learn the importance being able to lose a fight, something he definitely has encountered throughout his career.

While he had a love for wrestling, he fell into professional wrestling by accident while living in Los Angeles. This process proved to be a struggle, with Cena mentioning how despite feeling like “home” in the ring, there were a lot of moments where he failed before he started seeing success as a wrestler. The process proved to take quite some time, but he was always determined to have wrestling be a part of his life, whether that be professionally or as a hobby. Luckily, he mentioned how he always had a mentor guiding him throughout his life.

Of course, Cena mentioned some favorite moments from wrestling and potential scenarios for the near future. A moment he was particularly fond of, was during his rivalry with JBL. He mentioned how JBL was a great mentor, and that a funny memory during Wrestlemania 21 was when Cena mentioned why he didn’t get to have a dazzling entrance like JBL’s (which included raining money), and JBL says, “You get to win!” Also, a guest brought up if he would ever fight Coady Roades, and Cena responded by saying years ago he definitely would, but right now he feels like he would have to earn the opportunity. When asked what his favorite Wrestlemania match has been, Cena simply states the “next one.” Speaking of Wrestlemania, Cena mentioned that his favorite Wrestlemania venue was in Chicago at the Rosemont Horizon (now known as the Allstate Arena), since this is where he had his first ever match.

A part of his wrestling career included music, which a couple of fans brought up. His one and only album, “You Can’t See Me,” won’t see any additional follow ups. Cena mentioned that he doesn’t plan on rapping again, and that he’s happy with the success the album saw. The album peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200 charts and sold over 143,000 copies within its first week of release.

Watching Cena respond to audience questions, you could really tell that he loves his fans. Throughout his discussion, he constantly mentioned how everything he does is for the entertainment of the fans. One audience member asked how it feels to mean so much to people, and he responded by saying that it isn’t what he aspires for, but that he is grateful and always humbled by it. He tried his best to answer every audience question, but he eventually was forced off, with his own entrance song, “The Time is Now,” signaling it was time for the panel to end.
