‘Monster High’ Live Action Film in the Works from Universal

A new Monster High live-action film is in the works from Akiva Goldsman and his Weed Road production company, Mattel, Inc. and Universal Pictures.

Mattel Films’ President Robbie Brenner and Goldsman will serve as producers on the Monster High Film, with Kevin McKeon and Arturo Thur De Koos overseeing the project for Mattel, alongside Greg Lessans for Weed Road. Universal Pictures’ SVP of Production Lexi Barta and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project for the studio.

Speaking on the film, Goldsman stated, “I’ve been fascinated by Monster High since my daughters were obsessed with the dolls as kids. I’m thrilled to once again join forces with Robbie Brenner and our friends at Mattel to help bring this iconic property to life.”

A writer and director have not yet been attached to the film. The film will feature “an original story based on the popular fashion dolls imagined as the children of legendary monsters.”

Created by Garrett Sander, Kellee Riley and Glen Hanson, the Monster High toy line was launched by Mattel in 2010. The brand has spawned various animated TV specials, movies, and shows.
