A Quiet Place Day One takes the established franchise and brings it to new heights. The new film from Michael Sarnoski delivers a different lens at the world of a Quiet Place. Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn both star in the film that takes us to the beginning of the invasion. Check out the synopsis below.

When New York City comes under attack from an alien invasion, a woman and other survivors try to find a way to safety. They soon learn that they must remain absolutely silent as the mysterious creatures are drawn to the slightest sound.

The film opens up with Nyong’o’s character of Sam who is dealing with cancer and also their cat Frodo. Sam ventures out into the city with the rest of the people in the hospice to watch a show. We see this is where the invasion begins as everything around her goes to hell right after. The aliens invade and it’s not long before they start wiping out everything.

A Quiet Place Day One excels when it comes to the tension that is raised to another bar compared to the previous installments. Joseph Quinn and Lupita Nyong’o both are able to convey so many emotions with little to no words. There are many instances where you’re just holding your breath in anticipation of what’s coming next. The set and creature designs are something to behold in this latest installment. We really get some amazing visuals and close ups of the creatures this go around. A scene with a character and the creatures right next to them was one of the most breathtaking scenes. The film’s scope was way bigger than the previous entries but still had a much more personal and heartfelt story.

Lupita does an amazing job at conveying these conflicting feelings of the world ending but also trying to come to terms with the end of their own life. Nyong’o is a star, and this only cements her as one of the best working actors today. Joseph Quinn surprised me in his role as Eric. Quinn was great in the latest season of Stranger Things, but I wasn’t sure how he would be in a film of this scale with less characters. It’s safe to say that Quinn is on my radar and I’m excited to see where his career goes from here.

Michael Sarnoski in the end has developed a prequel that not only surpasses its predecessors but sets a new standard. A Quiet Place Day One is a soulful entry into the apocalyptic world of A Quiet Place. There’s so much action and tension but the heart is where it’s at. A film about the apocalypse that reminds us that the human spirit is still the strongest thing we have in this world.

We give A Quiet Place Day One a 4.5/5
