The Toronto International Film Festival returns September 5 – 15, 2024 for its 49th edition. The festival’s Gala Presentation presented by Dyson, was announced today, which includes a lot of highly anticipated titles.

Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe – Directed by Cosima Spender. “This documentary from Cosima Spender follows Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli beyond the stage and into his private life.”
Better Man – Directed by Michael Gracey.
Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight – Directed by Embeth Davidtz. “In this adaptation of Alexandra Fuller’s memoir, actor-director Embeth Davitz explores the end of the tenuous truce between white landowners and Black farm workers in the lead-up to the 1980 election in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).”
Eden – Directed by Ron Howard. “Oscar-winning director Ron Howard’s scintillating historical thriller stars Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby as high-minded Europeans who seek a new life on a previously uninhabited island in the Galápagos, only to discover that hell is other people.”
Elton John: Never Too Late – Directed by R.J. Cutler and David Furnish. “With candid interviews and newly revealed archival footage, co-directors R.J. Cutler and David Furnish, Sir Elton John’s husband, paint a riveting and highly intimate portrait of a musical icon and trailblazer.”
Harbin – Directed by Woo Min-ho. “This historical spy-thriller directed by Woo Min-ho stars Hyun Bin as a independence activist and political assassin.”
Meet the Barbarians – Directed by Julie Delpy. “A small town in France preparing to welcome a Ukrainian refugee family is surprised when a Syrian family shows up instead, in Julie Delpy’s touching comedy of integration.”
Nutcrackers – Directed by David Gordon Green. “Ben Stiller stars as a city slicker forced to look after a quartet of mischievous rural orphans in this fish-out-of-water comedy that speaks to the hidden talents in each of us just waiting for a chance to shine.”
Oh, Canada – Directed by Paul Schrader. “Richard Gere re-teams up with director Paul Schrader (American Gigolo) in this drama about a writer and draft dodger who agrees to recount his life for a team of documentary filmmakers.”
Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band – Directed by Thom Zimny. “Bruce Springsteen narrates this evocative look at his band’s career, teaming up with longtime collaborator Thom Zimny to investigate the singular alchemy that produced such a tight-knit and enduring group.”
Superboys of Malegaon – Directed by Reema Kagti. “Helmed by Reema Kagti (Talaash: The Answer Lies Within) in her latest collaboration with producer Zoya Akhtar (Gully Boy), this uplifting story chronicles the life of Nasir Shaikh, whose no-budget, community-sourced movies turned his hometown into an unlikely dream factory.”
The Deb – Directed by Rebel Wilson. “Rebel Wilson’s directorial debut, an adaptation of the award-winning stage musical, is a bold, funny, and sweet coming-of-age story set in the dusty Australian Outback.”
The Friend – Directed by David Siegel and Scott McGehee.
The Penguin Lessons – Directed by Peter Cattaneo. “Starring Oscar nominee Steve Coogan, this poignant dramedy from director Peter Cattaneo (Military Wives, TIFF ’19) follows an Englishman’s personal and political awakening after he adopts a penguin during a cataclysmic period in Argentine history.”
The Return – Directed by Uberto Pasolini. “Odysseus washes up on the shores of his kingdom to find it much changed since he left to fight in the Trojan War, in this classical drama starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.”
The Shrouds – Directed by David Cronenberg. “Still grieving the loss of his wife, a technological entrepreneur (Vincent Cassel) finds what’s left of his world collapsing into a nightmare of sex, paranoia, and grief in David Cronenberg’s most personal film.”
The Wild Robot – Directed by Chris Sanders. “Featuring the voices of Pedro Pascal, Catherine O’Hara, Lupita Nyong’o, Stephanie Hsu, and Bill Nighy, this DreamWorks Animation sci-fi adventure follows a robot designed to assist humans who finds herself stranded on an island populated exclusively by beasts.”
Unstoppable – Directed by William Goldenberg. “Moonlight’s Jharrel Jerome gives another outstanding performance amid a star-studded cast (including Don Cheadle and Jennifer Lopez) in this heartfelt sports drama about a college wrestler who dreams of going pro.”
Will & Harper – Directed by Josh Greenbaum. “This heartfelt documentary from director Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) follows Saturday Night Live alumni and close friends Will Ferrell and Harper Steele as they traverse the US by car following Steele’s announcement of her transition.”
