The North American rights for Azrael have been acquired by IFC Films and Shudder, according to Deadline.

From Republic Pictures, the new horror thriller from director E.L. Katz (Cheap Thrills), stars Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Femme). It is written by Simon Barrett (You’re Next).

“The film is set in a world in which no one speaks and follows a devout female-led community which hunts down a young woman who has escaped her imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, Azrael (Samara Weaving) is due to be sacrificed to pacify an ancient evil deep within the surrounding wilderness – but she has other ideas.”

The film will release exclusively in theaters via IFC on September 27 and be available on Shudder at a later date.
