Sundance World Cinema Documentary Competition title NEVER LOOK AWAY, acclaimed actress Lucy Lawless’ directorial debut, has sold major territories including an all rights deal in North America to Greenwich Entertainment, and an all rights deal in the UK with Kaleidoscope. Both distributors have committed to theatrical releases in the territories, with the U.S. release being on November 22, 2024. Kaleidoscope will also take over rest of world sales.
The film was directed by Lawless and produced by Matthew Metcalfe of GFC Films, Tom Blackwell and Lawless, and was written by Metcalfe, Blackwell, Lawless and Whetham Allpress. XYZ Films is executive producing.
In the film, swashbuckling CNN combat camerawoman, Margaret Moth, risks it all to put the viewer inside the conflict. When a fateful injury gets in the way of her appetite for danger and adrenaline, Moth must find the strength to carry on.
The deals for the film were negotiated by Nate Bolotin and Pip Ngofor XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers with Andy Bohn negotiating on behalf of Greenwich and Spencer Pollard (CEO) for Kaleidoscope.
“I was compelled to make this film and to tell the story of a wild-hearted iconoclast who proves that even bad girls can walk on the side of the angels. I am especially delighted that Greenwich and Kaleidoscope have come on board to give Margaret’s story a theatrical release,” said director/writer/producer Lucy Lawless.
The film is the most recent collaboration between XYZ and GFC, having successfully worked together on ASH, directed by Flying Lotus and starring Eiza Gonzalez and Aaron Paul which just sold to Prime Video International, NZ Oscar entry THE DEAD LANDS from Toa Fraser, which was presented to the US market by James Cameron and Toa’s next feature 6 DAYS starring Jamie Bell, Mark Strong and Abbie Cornish which was a global hit on Netflix.
