Werewolves and zombie’s mashup sounds like it would make an interesting premise for a movie. This is the premise for 2024’s Werewolves starring Frank Grillo. Werewolves is a 2024 American action-horror film directed and produced by Steven C. Miller. It stars Frank Grillo, Katrina Law, Ilfenesh Hadera, James Michael Cummings, and Lou Diamond Phillips. The film was released theatrically on December 6, 2024, in the United States.

I want to start off by saying that Werewolves has such a unique and distinct style when it comes to werewolves. It might just be as well that we don’t really get a lot of werewolves movies lately. There is a cartoonish look to the werewolves that’s actually a good thing because it adds a style to the movie. It almost borderlines video game level but still has some great visual flair throughout. It does have a bit too many lens flares for my liking however but if you’re into that visual style it shouldn’t be a problem.

Frank Grillo always shines in these roles that are very action heavy and here it’s no exception. The aggressiveness and drive needed for an action star is present and Grillo really delivers. The rest of the cast as well do a good job with the film. There’s a high octane feeling throughout the film which is what I expected. It never tried to pretend to be anything but a fun action/horror flick and that’s what it is. If you were looking for something that leans towards the horror aspect you might be at a lost. Werewolves at its core is pure action with Werewolves sprinkled throughout.

I found myself enjoying how aware the film becomes of itself toward the end. A final act that decides to just break all of its barrier and go full on bonkers. I had a ton of fun with the film and definitely is one to watch with an audience just for that added layer. Although I don’t really see myself revisiting the film in the future it’s still a fun time.
