Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Last Night in Soho) is directing a new adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man. Colman Domingo (Candyman, “Fear the Walking Dead”) is set to star in the film as the game host, Damon Killian, according to Deadline.
Stephen King’s novel was published under the pseudonym, Richard Bachman in 1982. It was loosely adapted into a film in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. It follows “Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show called The Running Man in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him.”
Domingo joins a cast that includes, Glen Powell, Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian and Daniel Ezra. Josh Brolin was cast to play the central antagonist. Lee Pace will play chief hunter Evan McCone, and Michael Cera is set to play ally Bradley Throckmorton. Rounding out the cast is William H. Macy who will assist the film’s protagonist in some way.
Wright is also co-writing the script with Michael Bacall and will produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. George Linder will executive produce.
The Running Man will release in theaters on November 7, 2025.
