The Weeknd’s (Abel Tesfaye) upcoming album and film, Hurry Up Tomorrow will mark some major accomplishments in his career, marking his sixth studio album and his feature-starring debut. In a new interview with Variety, the singer commented on what led up to the album and film and what’s next in his career.
While speaking broadly about the upcoming thriller, The Weeknd notes how it “continues the “After Hours” theme of a character struggling with his sense of self and delves deeply into the psychology of fame. Both the film’s original script and the new album were overhauled to incorporate the aftereffects of the Weeknd’s experience at SoFi.”
The psychological thriller from Lionsgate stars Tesfaye alongside Jenna Ortega (Scream, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice) and Barry Keoghan (The Batman, The Green Knight). Trey Edward Shults (Krisha, It Comes at Night, Waves) writes and directs Hurry Up Tomorrow.
The Weeknd also commented on his costars, mentioning the “depth” that Jenna brought to her character, and the “raw talent” that Keoghan possesses.
As for the album, there will apparently be several special guests. Of special note, is the collaboration of producer-composer Giorgio Moroder.
The “Hurry Up Tomorrow” album releases January 24, and the film will release May 16.
