The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit notes in tonight’s exclusive report, “Four studios are elbowing for the win, among them Warner Bros. and Netflix, according to sources.”
Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is said to “take the title back to its horror roots and be more faithful to the initial games,” which would just be a god send compared to the action focused entries from the past.

Johannes Roberts’ Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City took a similar approach back in 2021, but didn’t really take off. The film came after six movies starring Milla Jovovich, which collected over a billion at the box office.
The Netflix Resident Evil series also ran for just one season before being axed by the streamer, premiering in July 2022 to mixed reviews before being cancelled that August.

Zach Cregger, meanwhile, is Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s Weapons, which is being released in theaters on January 16, 2026. The film is being described as “a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia.”
