First look images of Hurry Up Tomorrow have landed via Entertainment Weekly, showing stars Jenna Ortega, The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan.

In Hurry Up Tomorrow, directed by Trey Edward Shults (WavesIt Comes at Night) and co-written by Shults, The Weeknd and Reza Fahim:

“a musician plagued by insomnia gets pulled into an odyssey with a stranger (Ortega) who begins to unravel the very core of his existence,”

Speaking with EW, Shults expands on the story, saying:

“It’s about an artist, you could say, on the verge of a mental breakdown […] He meets this woman, and they go on this odyssey together. It’s a mix of psychological thriller and drama. I honestly feel like I’ve never seen a movie quite like it.”

Ortega told EW more about her role as the mysterious Anima:

It was my understanding while shooting that my character, Anima, is a version of Abel. A side of him that the persona the Weeknd doesn’t show as much […] There were many iterations of Ani as the new script drafts came in, but I just loved that she consistently took no s— and felt everything intensely.”

Hurry Up Tomorrow releases theaters on May 16
