Ethan Hawke is on board to write a remake of the 1950 Gregory Peck western The Gunfighter for 20th Century Studios, per Deadline. Hawke will co-write the film with Shelby Gaines.

The film, which is in early development, does not have a director attached. However, the “hope” is for Hawke to direct, but he is only onboard to write and produce at the moment.

In the 1950 film, “Jimmy Ringo (Gregory Peck) is a veteran gunslinger known for being quick on the draw, but his talent inevitably leads to trouble, with others constantly out to challenge him. All Ringo wants is to be reunited with his estranged family, but he has to contend with various foes, including the ambitious young sharpshooter Hunt Bromley (Skip Homeier). As Ringo attempts to reconcile with his wife, Peggy (Helen Westcott), he finds that he can’t easily shake his violent past.”
