True Detective: Night Country creator Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid) will return for the fifth season of True Detective.

HBO has revealed some details on the upcoming season, which will be set in Jamaica Bay, New York and is expected sometime in 2027.

HBO’s Francesca Orsi tells Deadline this afternoon, “Issa has a lot to say, not unlike she did with Night Country. It’s a different milieu but just as powerful.”

“I’m really excited about it. We have a small writers room going with Issa; she’s excited,” Orsi explains. “We just gave notes on the first two episodes, the entire season. Honestly, I can’t wait for this to go. It’s all about casting and getting this ready.”

Deadline also notes, “The new season is rumored to have three leads, two male and one female.”
