The Goonies sequel has been confirmed today.

Potsy Ponciroli will write the sequel script for Warner Bros.

No plot details and no director are attached for the project yet.

Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario will produce for Amblin Entertainment alongside Chris Columbus, who wrote the original Goonies script. Lauren Shuler Donner will executive produce.

Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan and Martha Plimpton all starred in the original 1985 film.

In The Goonies, “a band of adventurous kids who take on the might of a property developing company which plans to destroy their home to build a country club. When the children discover an old pirate map in the attic, they follow it into an underground cavern in search of lost treasure but come up against plenty of dangerous obstacles along the way.”
