HBO is adding to its Harry Potter cast. Oscar and Emmy-nominated actress Janet McTeer is in negotiations to play Professor Minerva McGonagall and Emmy nominee Paapa Essiedu is closing his deal to play Severus Snape, per Deadline.
If cast, they will join John Lithgow who will portray Dumbledore.
The upcoming series comes from writer/showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director/executive producer Mark Mylod.
The Harry Potter TV series, which will be filmed at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden where the movies were shot, is slated to debut on HBO in late 2026 or early 2027.
HBO has described the series as “a faithful adaptation” that “will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters ‘Harry Potter’ fans have loved for over twenty-five years.
Each season will bring ‘Harry Potter’ and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”
