Frozen Ship is a survival game that combines elements of both The Long Dark and Frostpunk. It is a narrative-driven adventure that blends first-person open-world exploration with the management of a city on wheels. The game’s public demo will be available during Steam Next Fest June 9 to June 16, 2025.
Read the game’s lore here:
In 1971, scientists from the Norwegian University discovered an asteroid in the sky. According to calculations, it was supposed to pass close to Earth. However, as it later became known, the calculations were incorrect, and in September 1971, a massive asteroid impact was recorded in the East China Sea region.
Strong earthquakes began all over the Earth. Within a few days, a tsunami wave up to 10 km high completely destroyed about 90% of all existing cities. The release of burning soil particles and meteorite debris led to large-scale forest fires in the surviving areas.
The impact sent a huge amount of dust into the sky, completely blocking sunlight from reaching the Earth. This caused a mass extinction of plants that depended on the sun, and, as a result, the animals that relied on them.
According to scientists, the meteorite impact caused a shift in Earth’s orbit and a change in the poles, leading to a sharp drop in global temperatures.
By 1980, the temperature at Earth’s new equator had dropped to -20 degrees Celsius in the summer. The only habitable areas were now the northern territories, previously known as Europe. The remaining survivors attempted to migrate toward this new center. The planet experienced the worst famine in history.
In 1983, a new city was founded in the mountains of Sweden. Within just a few years, its population grew to 100,000, leading to severe food shortages, epidemics, and riots. The city’s authorities were unable to cope with the influx of people and the critical shortage of medicine. The last recorded mentions of the city date back to 1987. There is no data on any survivors.
1989 – According to various sources, Earth’s population was estimated to be between 7,000 and 12,000 people. The remaining survivors struggled to adapt to the conditions of eternal winter.
1996 – There was no exact data on the remaining survivors. On the border of Finland and Sweden, an active volcano was discovered, around which a settlement named Saint Alice was established, named after the woman who discovered the volcano. The settlement’s population numbered a few hundred people. There was no information about other settlements, and searches for survivors continued.
2004 – The volcano’s temperature decreased each year, making the settlement increasingly colder. Construction began on a ship capable of traveling long distances. The goal of the expedition was to find new places suitable for habitation.
By the end of 2007, the construction of the ship Steinfish was completed. By majority decision, a captain and a crew of 20 were selected.
It is time to begin our journey.
Frozen Ship will feature changing worlds that allow for unique gameplay, events that add to the game’s complexity, management of your ship and crew, as well as an expansive world to explore.
Stay tuned for more!
