Mubi has acquired Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value for the U.K., Ireland, Latin America, Turkey and India ahead of its premiere at Cannes, where the film will be in competition for the Palme d’Or.

The film is described as an “intimate and moving exploration of family, memories, and the reconciliatory power of art.”

Directed by Trier and co-written by Trier and Eskil Vogt (The Worst Person in the World, Oslo, August 31st), the film stars Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World), Stellan Skarsgård (Dune), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (A Beautiful Life) and Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown). 

The film is produced by Maria Ekerhovd for Mer Film and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar for Eye Eye Pictures in Norway. As a Norwegian, French, German, Danish, and Swedish co-production, the co-producers are Nathanael Karmitz for MK Productions and Juliette Schrameck for Lumen Production in France; Janine Jackowski and Jonas Dornbach for Komplizen Film in Germany; Sisse Graum Jørgensen for Zentropa in Denmark and Lizette Jonjic for Zentropa Sweden, as well as Film i Väst, Oslo Filmfond and Mediefondet Zefyr.

The film is also backed by BBC Film in the UK, with Eva Yates as executive producer, as well as Alaz Film and Storyline.
