Andy Muschietti (It) will direct sci-fi film, Drift, based on an unpublished short story by Ben Queen (Cars 2, The Addams Family 2) and Jason Shuman (“Acapulco”).

The project was on the market for less than a day, with Skydance winning with a bid of $2 million against higher if the movie gets made.

In the 38-page story, when his estranged son vanishes during a space mission, a once-legendary, now fallen from grace shuttle commander is pulled into a high-stakes hostage exchange in space to get his boy back from captors who are not from Earth.

Queen and Shuman will write the script.
