This year’s Comicpalooza has come to an end, and while there, we made sure to check out anything horror related. A panel that was one that couldn’t be missed for any horror lovers, was Women In Horror: Q and A with Sosie Bacon and Alicia Witt, which was moderated by 94.5 The Buzz’s Theresa.

While Theresa was the moderator, she did allow the conversation to be led by audience questions, which opened up a lot of interesting topics from Bacon and Witt. Questions ranged from of their experiences as actresses and how they navigate different types of roles, to of course, their roles in iconic horror films such as Urban Legend and Longlegs for Witt and Bacon’s lead role in Smile.

Sosie explained how physically exhausting filming Smile was, calling it a “marathon.” And she also mentioned how unlike a lot of actors that complained about eating for scenes, she thoroughly enjoyed filming the scene where she had to eat a burger (specifically three, to get the scene finished!) She also explained feeling tension in her arms and hands from making herself tremble for scenes, as well as having to jump several feet in the air to make herself run out of breath. A heartwarming story that she shared was how following the film’s release, she received a crown in the mail from horror icon, Jamie Lee Curtis (who she had never met) with a note that said, “You are the queen now.”

As for Witt, it was no surprise that the late David Lynch would be brought up, as her first role was in Lynch’s Dune, and she also had a part in Twin Peaks and Twin Peaks: The Return. She spoke warmly of her first acting role, and how she instantly knew that this was something she wanted to continue doing. As for Twin Peaks, she explained how Kyle MacLachlan was the only one with a complete script, and how Lynch would direct each actor in different ways. Beyond her experiences with Lynch, questions were brought up about Longlegs and even Witt’s Christmas movies!

Witt really put her all into Longlegs. She mentioned how she felt an ancestral energy when performing and how she refuses to watch the film because she doesn’t want to see what came from her. She also mentioned a scene that didn’t make it to the film (which she only knows from her discussions with writer/director Osgood Perkins). The scene that was discussed is when Maika Monroe’s character, Lee, witnesses Ruth (Witt) killing the police officer, instead of shooting the doll which causes Lee to pass out, Ruth put a syringe in her neck to put her to sleep. Witt mentioned that she wishes they kept the scene, especially considering how much it took for her and Monroe to film it.

Beyond that, other projects were mentioned for the actresses. Bacon can next be seen in Prime Video’s Scarpetta and Witt, who is also a musician, has been performing several concerts.
