The Steam Next Fest demo for The Killing Stone is live and you can test your mettle by playing as Maven, a 17th century master of the dark arts, to build your deck,  perform rituals to empower the cards within, make bargains with lesser demons to gain boons or avoid banes. and ultimately go toe-to-toe with evil incarnate himself to try and save the Svangård family’s souls…..without losing yours.

A folk horror card battler with beautiful stylized art, animated figurines, dazzling effects, haunted sound and music, and an original first-person narrative set in the 17th century in a remote region of the Arctic circle. Investigate the mystery of the late Mariken Svangård as the masked Maven, her pupil in the dark arts and final friend. Use your wits and skills to compete in an ancient game against a series of demons to cleanse the souls of the late Mariken’s family before the Devil comes to claim his due.

The voices for Maven and the Devil were recorded twice  — once in modern English and again in a period 17th century style English — and you can switch to the version you’d prefer at will.  Voice actors Emma Gregory (Baldurs Gate 3) and Liam O’Brien (Critical Role) lend their talents to Maven and The Devil respectively in both narrative styles. You’ll find a rich atmosphere, strategic deckbuilding, diabolical enemies, great voice acting, helpful animal familiars, and bargaining for souls.
