Cineverse has acquired Guillermo del Toro’s 3x Oscar winning movie, Pan’s Labyrinth. A re-release is planned for the film’s 20th Anniversary in 2026.

In the film, “it’s 1944 and the Allies have invaded Nazi-held Europe. In Spain, a troop of soldiers are sent to a remote forest to flush out the rebels. They are led by Capitan Vidal, a murdering sadist, and with him are his new wife Carmen and her daughter from a previous marriage, 11-year-old Ofelia. Ofelia witnesses her stepfather’s sadistic brutality and is drawn into Pan’s Labyrinth, a magical world of mythical beings.”

Del Toro wrote and directed Pan’s Labyrinth, which was produced by his company, Tequila Gang. The pic stars Ivana Baquero, Maribel Verdu (Y tu mama tambien), Doug Jones (Hellboy II), and Sergi Lopez (Dirty Pretty Things).

Cineverse’s deal includes all North American distribution rights including home entertainment, VOD, streaming, plus original content including podcasts. Cineverse is also planning to release the movie in premium wide-format screens.

Del Toro said, “Pan’s Labyrinth turns 20 years old and in Cineverse we have found the perfect partner to make it live again on the big screen and in new and improved home presentations. Cineverse is committed and bold, and their track record for reaching a maximum audience is magnificent. Together we will reconnect the generations that have shared the film through the years and long to experience it theatrically again.”

Deadline first reported on the acquisition.
