British broadcaster Sky has commissioned a series adaptation of Stieg Larsson‘s smash hit novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher, Hannibal) and Angela LaManna (The Punisher, Channel Zero) will write and executive produce the eight-episode Sky Original.

In the novel, disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander investigate the mysterious disappearance of a girl from a wealthy family 40 years earlier. Per the official description of the project, it will bring the story “into the present, grounded in the characters and investigative DNA of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium novels, with themes that carry heightened relevance today.”

Filming is slated to commence in Lithuania this spring with Left Bank Pictures (The Crown, Outlander) producing.

Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore and John Phillips of Left Bank will executive produce along with Sam Hoyle for Sky, Amy Pascal, and Scott Rudin.

The series will be available on Sky in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Sony Pictures Television will handle international distribution, with pre-sale efforts now underway in the US.

Variety first reported on the series.
