Dylan O’Brien (Send Help) and Hudson Williams (“Heated Rivalry”) are starring in the dark comedic thriller Apparatus.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Canadian actress Sofia Banzhaf (Dream Scenario). She co-wrote the script with Grayson Moore.
It follows struggling young rideshare driver Tyler (Williams) as he falls under the influence of a self-styled entrepreneur, JP (O’Brien), who offers him a future in his handheld-massager business.
What appears to be a dream opportunity unravels as JP pulls Tyler into a violent downward spiral.
Producers on the project include Banzhaf, Moore, Daniel Bekerman (The Witch, Ready or Not) of Scythia Films, Julie Baldassi of Younger Daughter Films, and Brian Robertson. Neil Mathieson (Clown in a Cornfield) executive produces.
Sam Sutcliffe and Jasmin Karibzhanova of Ursa Major Films are co-financing alongside Nicholas Chepesiuk of Gabardine, Telefilm Canada, and Mongrel Media.
WME Independent and CAA Media Finance are co-repping Apparatus for sales. Production dates are still being finalized.
Deadline first reported on the film.
