There is no denying the impact that M3GAN has had since its release earlier this year. The film has went on to become a horror hit and internet meme. All the hype even got M3GAN a sequel as well that will release in 2025 so the M3GAN train continues. It’s release last month also prompted people to ask, Is there ever a chance to see the R rated version? It turns out that’s a lot sooner than people might have expected.

M3GAN arrives on Digital February 24 and on Blu-ray & DVD March 21 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, including the Theatrical Version and the Unrated Edition. The unrated version is one we were teased about from writer Akela Cooper back when the film first released.

Akela Cooper had this to say about the project to Los Angeles Times

“No shade to Universal, love them, and I understand that once the trailer went viral, teenagers got involved and you want them to be able to see it,” “There should be an unrated version at some point … I heard it is on the books. But yes, it was way gorier. Her body count in the script was higher than in the movie. It wasn’t a Gabriel scale massacre, but she did kill a bunch more people, including a couple of characters whom James was like, “I like what you did with those people, but I want them to live. I was merciless, but again, that is me. My humor is extremely dark.”

It will definitely be exciting to see the full blown unrated cut finally and what Cooper had cooked up for us. One also has to wonder if the changes Wan wanted will also be shown and might change the movie we saw. Will you be watching the unrated cut of M3GAN when it releases later this month on Peacock?
